HOME
THIS IS AN OLDER HOME BUILT IN THE 1840'S AND STILL HAS TRAITS OF AN OLDER HOME. While there have been some small cosmetic renovations, it still has old bones and guests may notice details like original uneven hardwood floors, single pane blown glass windows, slanted porches, old doors, cracks in ceiling, cracks in paint, etc. While we think this adds to the authenticity of your trip in Charleston, staying in an older historic home is not for everyone. If comparing prices in Charleston, we feel it is an affordable alternative to hotels and other homes in the area but anyone expecting luxury accommodations in a brand new house should look elsewhere.
NEIGHBORHOOD
Please note that the home is located in a neighborhood that is in the midst of rapid gentrification. It is a mix of younger families, young professionals, college students, and lower income housing. While we feel the home is in a great location (with a Walk Score of 80) and the locals in Charleston are as friendly as they come, THE OPTICS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD MAY NOT BE FOR EVERYONE. If areas of gentrification make you feel unsafe or uncomfortable we urge you to book elsewhere. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS DUE TO THE LOCATION. Please book accordingly.
INCLEMENT WEATHER
Your safety and comfort are our priority. In the unlikely event of a MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER FOR CHARLESTON COUNTY during your stay, rest assured that both the Owner/Host and the Property Management Company WILL REFUND 100% OF YOUR PAYMENTS. Once refunded, neither party will have further liability regarding your Reservation.
Please note that ONLY MANDATORY EVACUATIONS WILL QUALIFY FOR REFUNDS. No other travel disruptions due to weather, whether in South Carolina or other states, are eligible. For protection, consider travel insurance, especially in high-risk months like hurricane season. Airbnb's insurance or other options are recommended.
BUGS
As Charleston is situated in a warm, coastal climate it is possible to see insects inside or outside of the home at times. These include palmetto bugs, sand gnats, mosquitoes, ants, etc. Those who live in the Lowcountry just accept this as part of living here but it may be unsettling for those from other areas. The home is treated regularly for pest control but this will not entirely eliminate insects from getting inside at times. Please do your best to not keep doors and windows open and not leave food or drinks out in the home as this will attract insects. FINDING AN INSECT IS NOT CAUSE FOR A REFUND.
We appreciate your understanding and are here to assist with any inquiries. We look forward to your visit.

Neighborhood overviewThe home is located in the "East Side" neighborhood, a rapidly gentrifying and up-and-coming neighborhood in a great location of downtown Charleston. Right out of the front door guests can take in views of the Ravenel Bridge, with it's walking and bike path only steps away. Also directly adjacent to the home is the Cigar Factory, a building on the National Historic Register that has been recently converted into a mixed-use facility with restaurants, a bar, a cafe, shops, and a beautiful private event venue called The Cedar Room. Just over a half mile from the home is the popular restaurant/nightlife area known as Upper King Street and a mile away is the Nomo neighborhood, with it's breweries and barbecue. Rent bikes only 2 blocks from the house and check out all the “Holy City” has to offer.
